McGhee, 29, is from Aurora, Illinois.
He is 2.03 meters (6’8”) tall and is considered an excellent rebounder.
McGhee started his college career at a small junior college in Cincinnati in the 1998/99 season.
In his second season, he was named MVP of the 2000 National Junior College Athletic Association tournament when he led his team to fifth place with an impressive average of 34.5 points and 15.5 rebounds per game.
The following season, McGhee transferred to the University of Oklahoma, one of the top-ranked teams in the NCAA.
McGhee continued to impress there, with an average of 16 points and 7.7 rebounds per game in his senior year.
He was considered one of the main reasons Oklahoma made the NCAA Final Four that year.
He was the sixth ranked scorer at his level, and the fifth in rebounds in the Big 12 schools.
In the tournament itself he improved his numbers to 21.2 points and 8.8 rebounds, and only powerhouse Indiana was able to stop the Sooners in the semifinals (despite McGhee’s 22 points and 8 rebounds).
Following his senior year, McGhee made the 2002 NBA draft but was not selected, in spite of his excellent performance at the famous pre-draft camp at Portsmouth, where he was named MVP.
McGhee then looked to Europe, and began his professional career in the uniform of Ciudad Cafsa, in Spain’s second league.
Later he moved on to Pesaro in Italy.
For the past three seasons, McGhee has wandered throughout Asia, becoming a star in South Korea, China and the Philippines.
McGhee started the current season with Ironi Nahariya, where he accumulated 25.2 index points in 14 games, putting him at the top of the chart of outstanding players in the Israeli premier league.
While with Nahariya, McGhee averaged 17.9 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 14 games.
