Pops Mensah-Bonsu, who was injured while playing for Team Great Britain during the London Olympics earlier this year, informed Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv following the injury that he intended to undergo arthroscopic surgery at the end of August. During the physical exams performed in Israel it became clear that the rehabilitation period necessary for the player to make a full recovery would be longer than hoped for, something which could hinder the preparations of the team for the coming season, and indeed perhaps affect the season itself.
Although we wanted to see Pops wearing the yellow and blue this season, his anticipated lengthy rehabilitation, as well as the fact that he did not pass the physical, led to the decision – with the understanding of the player and his agent, and in accordance with the terms of the contract – that Mensah-Bonsu would be released from the club.
