Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv and David Blu have reached an agreement whereby he will remain with the team until the end of the current season. This will be Blu’s seventh season (in four separate terms, a record for a player returning to Maccabi) in the yellow and blue, making him the most senior member of the current team.
Blu (or as he was known then, Bluthenthal) first came to Maccabi for the 2002-03 season and remained for two years. He returned for the 2007-08 season, then came back once again in 2009-10 and remained for three straight seasons. In 2012 he announced his retirement from basketball, but in recent months changed his mind and has returned.
During his career so far with Maccabi, Blu has scored 942 points in the Euroleague – 19th place on Maccabi’s list of the team’s all-time scorers in Europe. He needs only 58 points to become the 18th player in the history of the club to score 1,000 points in Europe. In the Israeli League (not including playoffs and the Israeli Cup) Blu has scored 1,364 points. So far, he has won 4 Israeli Championships, 5 Israeli Cups, one Euroleague Championship and one Adriatic League Championship with Maccabi.
In his nine-season Euroleague career to date (which includes three seasons with teams other than Maccabi), David Blu made 225 three point shots (16th place on the list of all-time Euroleague shooters) with an amazing 41.3 percent accuracy rate from outside the arc. His averages in the Euroleague currently stand at 8.9 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.
