Joe Alexander Signs with Maccabi

Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv has signed American forward Joe Alexander (28, 6’8”) until the end of the current season, with an option for an additional season.
 
Alexander is an athlete of tremendous talent, a forward with an impressive ability to score points in a variety of ways. A very active player, he can score from mid-range and has a great feel for playing in the paint.
 
Alexander was born in Taiwan, and later moved with his family to China. As a teenager, Alexander returned to the United States, going on to play for the West Virginia Mountaineers for three seasons. In his final season there, he posted averages of 16.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game.
 
Following his junior year at West Virginia, Alexander declared for the NBA draft, where he was chosen 8th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks. He played in 59 games during his rookie season, contributing 4.7 points and 1.9 rebounds per game.
 
The following season, after a brief stint in the D-League, he moved to the Chicago Bulls, but due to injuries only played in 8 games. He next signed with the then New Orleans Hornets, but moved back to the D-League without playing a game in New Orleans. In his time with the Texas Legends, he posted averages of 20.2 points, 9 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game. During the NBA lockout in the summer of 2011, he joined Russian team Krasnye Krylya Samara where he contributed an average of 8.4 points and 4 rebounds in 9 games in the VTB League before suffering a stress fracture in his tibia. After taking a year off and hoping the injury would heal on its own, Alexander underwent surgery.
 
Last season, Alexander joined the roster of the Golden State Warriors, ultimately ending up with the D-League’s Santa Cruz Warriors where he averaged 13.7 points and 7 rebounds per game. This season, now fully recovered, Alexander returned to his more typical high averages, becoming one of the most impressive players in the D-League with averages of 21.7 points, 8 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game. On December 1st, Alexander was selected D-League Player of the Week
