Maccabi Tel Aviv signed its first player for the upcoming season by adding small forward Jason Williams, who arrives from Bnei Hasharon. Williams (196, 25) signed a two-year deal with the club. He joins his coach of the past two seasons, Effi Birenboim, who took the head coaching post at Maccabi two weeks ago.
Williams is an all-around player, who can defend multiple positions thanks to his combination of strength and quickness. Together with Birenboim at Bnei Hasharon, he reached the Israeli Cup final in 2007 and made two Israeli League final four appearances. In the last season he was the fourth-leading scorer in the league with 16.5 point per game in addition to 4.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.7 steals, earning him All-Israeli League first team honors.
Before joining Bnei Hasharon, he spent three years playing college basketball at UTEP.
