Arroyo and Puerto Rico wins gold

Puerto Rico won Gold at the 2008 Centrobasket Tournament by defeating US Virgin Islands 87-70 in the final game of the 2008 Centrobasket Tournament. This was their ninth title and their third in the last five editions. All three of them were in Mexican territory.

Carlos Arroyo, the new point guard of Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv, scored 15 points and dished 6 assists in 39 minutes for Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico made 15 of their 27 attempts from three point range led by Carmelo Lee who made 5 of them in 7 and Carlos Arroyo with five in ten.

The first quarter was close as the USVI played physical against Barea but Angelo Reyes made 7 points to lead Puerto Rico 25-20.

US Virgin Islands never gave up and won the second quarter 18-17 to leave halftime down 42-38.

Puerto Rico sealed the deal in the second half winning the third quarter 19-16 to have a 61-54 lead. Their lead was not huge but they continued to score from long range to get the win.

Lee led Puerto Rico with 21 points while Jose Barea and Carlos Arroyo netted 15 points each.

Arroyo will come to Israel with his family in the next week.
