Maccabi mourns the passing of its legendary coach Arie Davidesko

Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv mourns the passing of Arie Davidesko (1931-2018) who was also Ralph Klein's assistant coach in Maccabi's first ever EuroLeague title in 1977. As a head coach he won four consecutive domestic championships and Israeli Cups

Arie Davidesko, who made Aliyah to Israel from Romania in 1962 where he both played and coached, in Israel he coached teams in the Hapoel branch (Haifa, Givaat Brener, Holon, Jerusalem and Tel Aviv) before joining Maccabi's coaching staff in 1976.

Davidesko was amongst the ones responsible for both promoting and strengthening many players such as Mickey Berkovich and Maccabi's stars of the first European dynasty. As Klein assistant Maccabi won the 1977 EuroLeague, Arie went on winning no less than 8 titles during his time as head coach (four championships and cups). 

As the Basketball instructors and coach's course coordinator at the Wingate institute, Arie developed original and innovative coaching methods in addition he also served as the Israeli youth national team. He wrote the book "Basketball – The Peak" and coached 321 games in the Israeli domestic league between the years 1962-1985.

Maccabi mourns the passing of Arie Davidesko, may he rest in peace.
