Maccabi adds EuroCup champ and MVP Scottie Wilbekin

After the signings of Kendrick Ray and Angelo Caloiaro, Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv is happy to announce the addition of the EuroCup champ and MVP Scottie Wilbekin. Able to play in both the PG and SG position, Scottie who has a EuroLeague experience is known for his high basketball IQ as well as for his ability in one on one situations, making jumpers and shots from deep. 

The 25 year old PG, finished last season as the EuroCup champ with Darussafaka while finishing the season as the EuroCup season and finals MVP. In the finals he averaged 26P (47.6% from deep, 57.1 for 2P, 87.5% from the FT line) and 3A.

"I'm excited to join a big club like Maccabi and to be a part of the tradition of European basketball", said Scottie Wilbekin to Maccabi's official website. "I'm excited to see the team that's being built in Tel Aviv and looking forward to see everybody soon, Yalla Maccabi".

"He's one of the most promising point guards in Europe today", said Coach Neven Spahija, who's thrilled to add the star PG to his roster. "I hope that after the great job he has done in Darussafaka he is ready for another major step in Maccabi and in the EuroLeague, he's an amazing person and teammate".



Scottie Wilbekin, who had multiple offers after a standout season in the EuroCup, got a lot of attention after putting a monster performance of  41 points (10 three pointers!!!) against Bayern Munich who is also joining the EuroLeague next season. Wilbekin had four games where he dished 9A as he established himself as a scorer and a great up-tempo game. 

Born in Gainesville Florida, Scottie played college ball for the Gators where he made it back to back to the all-defensive team, the southeastern conference first team and player of the year. In his senior year the Gators won the SEC championship and made it to the NCAA final four. 

After trying to get into the NBA via the summer league (playing for Memphis and Philadelphia), Scottie signed with Cairns of the NBL where he was selected to the NBL first team, he then signed with AEK Athens till the rest of the season. In the summer of 2015 Philadelphia signed Wilbekin to a four year deal but decided to waive him, he then joined Darussafaka to a 1+1 contract; he was selected to the BSL all-star game and at the end of the season he extended his contract with Darussafaka for two more years.



From 2015-2017 Scottie has played in 51 EuroLeague games and had a key role in his team's success in the EuroLeague making it to the playoffs against Real Madrid. In his second season in the EuroLeague he averaged 11.6P (47.5% from deep), 3.2A, 1.8R and 1.4S). 

During last season Scottie was a starter for Darussafaka, in 27 BSL games he averaged 16.9P, 5.1A, 2.6R and 1S while in the EuroCup he had 19.7P (48.5% from deep), 4.8A, 2.4R and 1.6S. Scottie who led his team to a historic EuroCup title finished the season with both the season and the finals MVP, he also broke the record for most points (41) and three pointers scored in a game without OT (10).
