Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv is pleased to announce the signing of Tarik Black for two more years. The big man has an exit option for a guaranteed NBA contract both this summer and the next one.
Tarik Black played before his arrival to Israel in 227 NBA games for the Los Angeles Lakers and the Houston Rockets. Among other things, he collaborated with one of the great players ever played the game, Kobe Bryant, before crossing the ocean last summer for the first season in European basketball.
This season Black scored 11 points per Euroleague game (69.9% of the field) and grabbed 5.4 rebounds in 21 minutes of basketball per night. In the European arena he also led Maccabi players with 13.8 points. During the regular league season, he averaged 9 points, grabbed 6.1 rebounds and blocked 1.1 shots in 18.7 minutes per game. One of the games that characterized Black this season was game 1 of the quarterfinals against Hapoel Tel Aviv, then he blocked 5 times in the first 5 minutes and compared the playoff record with blocks.
Coach Giannis Sfairopoulos told the official website: "I am very proud for the organization of Maccabi and Tarik Black that both sides have extended the contract between them. I know that Tarik is an NBA player and wish him to play there, but we are very happy to have him. Due to the opportunity I have had to train him for the past seven months, I think we have a great future ahead of us. I am very pleased with this signing and the extension of his contract".
