Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv has signed John Dibartolomeo for two more years with an option for another season later. The energetic guard (29, 1.83m), appointed captain in January 2018, had a great start to last season and also throughout the period he was sidelined due to injuries he displayed a strong character alongside exceptional professionalism and commitment.

"I’m happy and excited to continue with Maccabi Tel Aviv", Dibartolomeo told maccabi.co.il. "The yellow jersey has felt like home since I got here 3 years ago. I’m extremely grateful and appreciative of the club and the coach for giving me this opportunity, especially after last years' injuries. I can’t wait to go back to doing what I love the most for the team and the fans. Yalla Maccabi!".

"Maccabi needs its captain and that's why we all at Maccabi are very happy that John is staying", coach Giannis Sfairopoulos said of Dibartolomao. "He is a valuable player, he is a mainstay in the team and it is very important that we continue to fight together with John for the success of Maccabi".

Dibartolomeo moved to Maccabi in June 2017 and shortly afterwards was the MVP of the Winner's Cup tournament on the way to winning that trophy. During the season he replaced Itay Segev as captain and was the captain who lifted the championship plate after a 3 years draught. Also the following season he won the local title after coming off the bench in the final, scoring 15 points and being selected as the Final Four MVP.

Johndi opened the last season with wonderful ability in all settings. Already in the second round of the season in the Euroleague he was on fire with 15 points and also stood out against Alba Berlin at home (19), Basconia away (14 points, 6 assists and 3 steals) and Barcelona (13). He tore his chest muscle at the start of the home game against Bayern Munich and finished the Euroleague season with 7.8 points, 47.1% from three, 94.7% from the line and 1.7 assists per game on average.

In the Israeli league he managed to take part in eight games, started in one and provided 7.9 points per night, 2.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.8 steals per game on average. After recovering from surgery to treat a chest muscle rupture and return to fitness, just before the resumption of league games, he injured his Achilles tendon and he was disabled again.

John Dibartolomeo, the son of a Jewish mother who grew up in the Connecticut area, has been playing in Israel for five years. After graduating from the University of Rochester he set out to try his luck in professional basketball in Europe and presented a steady trend of improvement.

John was signed in Zaragoza, loaned to Palma and in the summer of 2015 came to Maccabi Haifa. Wearing the green uniform he was crowned player of the season in the league (2017) and included in the first team of the season. Since then, as mentioned, the upgrade has continued.
