Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv is proud to announce the signing of Roman Sorkin (24, 2.08 Meters) on a one-season contract with an option for another year. The Israeli power-forward played last season for Maccabi Haifa, scoring 13.5 points, picking up 7.2 rebounds and delivering 2 assists in an average of 29.2 minutes per game.

"This is a player who has all the potential to establish his basketball at the EuroLeague level as well, and that's why we signed him", explained head coach Giannis Sfairopoulos. "We believe he can be an important player for us in the Israeli League and also in the EuroLeague. He's a player with a lot of upside".

"As an Israeli player who grew up in Israeli basketball, this is a very exciting day for me - the day I signed with Maccabi Tel Aviv," said Roman Sorkin. "It is a high level to reach, but now is the time to prepare and go to work, in order to bring joy, pride and of course titles to the amazing Maccabi fans, which are known throughout Europe".

Roman is a tall player with a large wingspan, the ability to put the ball on the ground and shoot from outside. He has four years of experience in the NCAA  and three more seasons in the Maccabi Haifa uniform. He was selected as March MVP in the league last season and set his career record with 27 points against Hapoel Holon.

Sorkin has accumulated more than 30 efficiency index points in five different league games last season, ranked first among Israelis in rebounds, third in points per game and fifth in the efficiency index. He started in all 29 of his team’s games, providing over 20 points in nine of them and a double-double in seven of them. In his last meeting with Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv, he scored 15 points and registered 12 rebounds in Haifa.

Roman Sorkin, who was born in Belarus and immigrated to Israel with his family at the age of two, played for the Oregon Ducks for 4 years, between 2014 and 2018. Between 2015 and 2017 he collaborated with none other than Tyler Dorsey, when in their final season together the two helped the team reach the prestigious and grueling NCAA Final Four.

The forward, who can also play as a center, grew up in Ashdod and played for the local Elitzur team. Sorkin played for Israel's national youth teams until the age of 18, took part in the U-20 team and was even included in the senior team squad for the 2022 EuroBasket qualifiers.
