\tFor the last four seasons, Goodes was the first assistant and right hand man of head coach David Blatt, and played an important role in the many successes of the team, particularly during the last season. With this appointment, Maccabi has demonstrated the emphasis it places on continuity in the team. Maccabi is proud of the fact that the club provides a platform and advancement not only for players, but for great coaches as well. With David Blatt\u2019s decision to accept a position in the NBA, Maccabi sees Goodes as the natural choice to lead the team into the future.<\/span><\/p>\n

\tGoodes\u2019 substantial resume with Maccabi includes eight seasons as a player and six as an assistant coach; he will begin his 15th season with the club in the position of head coach. Goodes has been inducted into the Maccabi Tel Aviv Hall of Fame, and his jersey hangs in a place of honor there.<\/span><\/p>\n

\tGoodes began his coaching career in the 2004-05 season, serving first as assistant coach in Maccabi Rishon Lezion, then replacing Hanoch Mintz as head coach during that season. The following season, Goodes led Rishon Lezion to third place in the Israeli League.<\/span><\/p>\n

\tIn 2006-07, Goodes joined the coaching staff of Maccabi Tel Aviv, as first assistant coach of Neven Spahija of Croatia. The following season, he served in the same capacity for Oded Katash and Zvika Sherf.<\/span><\/p>\n

\tAhead of the 2008-09 season, Goodes signed a two-year contract as head coach of Hapoel Jerusalem. He returned home to Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv in the summer of 2010, and for the past four seasons has been the first assistant and right hand man of head coach David Blatt. He also served as an assistant coach with the national basketball team of Great Britain.<\/span><\/p>\n

\tGoodes began his playing career at the tender age of 15, playing in the premier Israeli League for Hapoel Haifa. He joined Maccabi Tel Aviv four years later (the Gulf War Season of 1990-91) along with Nadav Henefeld; in their very first season with the club they qualified for the Final Four.<\/span><\/p>\n

\tGoodes had an excellent shooting hand, scoring from all over the court, even more than a yard past the three point line, displaying impressive game smarts \u2013 something which would enable him to become an excellent coach \u2013 and was known as a tough defensive player and a true fighter. During his playing career he suffered several serious injuries, but he always recovered and returned, becoming a symbol of determination.<\/span><\/p>\n

\tGoodes played for Maccabi Tel Aviv for eight successful seasons, during which he scored 1,059 points in the Israeli League and 707 points in Europe. Guy played for the Israeli National Team at every age level, as well as for professional teams in Spain and Italy, along with Israeli teams Ra\u2019anana, Hapoel Tel Aviv and Maccabi Rishon Lezion. At the end of the 2003-04 season he announced his retirement.<\/span><\/p>\n

\tDuring his career with Maccabi Tel Aviv so far, as player and assistant coach, Goodes has won 11 Israeli Championships, 7 Israeli Cups, one Adriatic League Championship, and of course the freshly-minted Euroleague Championship of 2014; 20 titles altogether! Incidentally, he has more Winner Cup titles than anyone \u2013 7 years running (5 with Maccabi and 2 with Jerusalem).<\/span><\/p>\n

\tGoodes has reached the European Final Four 4 times with Maccabi, once as a player and three times as an assistant coach.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
