{"id":500490,"date":"2017-04-23T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-04-23T09:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8080\/the-yellow-jersey\/"},"modified":"2017-04-23T12:00:00","modified_gmt":"2017-04-23T09:00:00","slug":"the-yellow-jersey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maccabi.co.il\/en\/the-yellow-jersey\/","title":{"rendered":"The Yellow Jersey"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"direction: ltr; text-align: justify;\"> \t<span style=\"font-size:14px;\">Until the start of the 1940s, Maccabi Tel Aviv&#8217;s colors were blue and white.<\/p>\n<p> \tIn 1942, in order to identify with the Jews of Europe who were persecuted by the Nazis and forced to wear a yellow star of David, Yosef <\/span><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">Marimovich<\/span><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">, a footballer with Maccabi Tel Aviv, suggested that Maccabi Tel Aviv <\/span><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">wear<\/span><span style=\"font-size:14px;\"> a yellow shirt, along with the traditional blue. The horrific stories were trickling into the Land of Israel from Europe, and the players of Maccabi Tel Aviv were deeply hurt by them. The reports of the yellow star &#8211; one of the most distressing symbols of the Holocaust &#8211; sent shudders through everyone.<\/span><br \/> \t\u00a0<\/div>\n<div style=\"direction: ltr; text-align: justify;\"> \t<span style=\"font-size:14px;\">Marimovich&#8217;s<\/span><span style=\"font-size:14px;\"> suggestion fell upon receptive ears and was adopted by a majority vote by the management, which also decided that the symbol of Maccabi, a star of David, would be prominently displayed in yellow.
