\tComing off a great week the squad in yellow and blue wanted to continue their tremendous momentum as they faced Hapoel Tel Aviv for the second derby of the season. Hapoel imposes their will for most parts of the game but Wilbekin\u2019s heroic performance in the fourth quarter sent the game to overtime where the hosts managed to get the win. Maccabi will now focus on their next game in the EuroLeague where they will face Panathinaikos on Thursday.<\/p>\n

\t“Unfortunately today we didn\u2019t have a good game\u201d, said Coach Sfairopoulos. \u201cWe didn\u2019t have a game to our level, defensively and offensively. First of\u00a0<\/span>all<\/span> defensively we allow a lot of easy points, the game went as Hapoel wanted, with a lot of transition points. They scored 21 fast real points and that\u2019s a big number for our defense plus in our set offense defense was not good, the easy points gave them <\/span>confidence<\/span> to make also some shots in some difficult plays especially in overtime where they scored tough shots, we missed layups but not only in overtime, we didn\u2019t have concentration for the game”.<\/p>\n

\t“We had a lot of open shots that tactically Hapoel packed the paint and risk the outside shots”, coach Giannis added. “We had a lot of open shots some of them we scored but a lot of them were completely open and we didn\u2019t score that\u2019s why I think we lost our confidence and our defense didn\u2019t improve during the game. We tried to come back to the game, we succeeded having a great offensive period but in overtime especially in the first plays defensively and offensively we were not good we missed some layups and we miss some rebounds defensively and scored some baskets and fouls that gave them a small lead and at the end they won the game”.<\/p>\n

\t“We didn\u2019t come out the way we should have\u201d, said Scottie Wilbekin. \u201cWe didn\u2019t come out playing the way we\u2019ve been playing in the last couple of weeks and that\u2019s the biggest thing to take from the game, we can\u2019t just think that because we won a couple of games that it\u2019s going to be easy or that teams gonna give us anything easy, it\u2019s a tough lesson to learn especially in a big game like this where you really want to win but hopefully we can learn that and put this game behind us and focus for the next game”.<\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
