{"id":504308,"date":"2019-09-06T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-09-06T09:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8080\/maccabi-toured-the-chelmno-death-camp\/"},"modified":"2026-04-26T11:05:25","modified_gmt":"2026-04-26T08:05:25","slug":"maccabi-toured-the-chelmno-death-camp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maccabi.co.il\/en\/maccabi-toured-the-chelmno-death-camp\/","title":{"rendered":"Maccabi toured the Chelmno death camp"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"responsive-video-container\" style=\"position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; margin-bottom: 20px;\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nz66q5dU6Kg\" style=\"position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%;\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div style=\"direction: ltr;\">\n<div> \t\t<span style=\"font-size:14px;\">Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv&#8217;s players, coaches and staff took a tour to the Chelmno extermination camp the morning after they landed in Poland, about an hour&#8217;s drive from the city of Wloclawek where the first pre-season tournament is being held.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li> \t\t\t<span style=\"font-size:14px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maccabi.co.il\/news.asp?id=7090&amp;lang=en\"><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><u><strong>The origins of Maccabi&#8217;s yellow uniform<\/strong><\/u><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div> \t\t<span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Chelmno was the first camp where the Nazis murdered Jews by gas and the first place where the extermination took place in a permanent site. The city of Wloclawek was the first place in the Nazi occupation areas where Jews were forced to wear the infamous yellow badge, the source of the yellow color of the Maccabi uniform.<\/span><\/p>\n<p> \t\t<span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">In the death camp, hundreds of thousands of people were killed, about 98% of them Jews. In Chelmno Nazis used to fill gas trucks with men, women and children, who were suffocated to death. The first Jewish shipment arrived at the camp on December 7th 1941, the same day that in the other side of the world Japan attacked the US naval base at Pearl Harbor.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p> \t\t<span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Today, much of the remains of the camp have been destroyed. In Chelmno there is a museum, monument and gravestones reminiscent of the atrocities that took place there. The team members, all dressed in club uniforms, toured the site and received a detailed explanation about the extermination camp from a local guide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p> \t\t<span style=\"font-size:14px;\">&#8220;Someone once said that if you do not know your history, you have no big future.
