On Tuesday: Maccabi in the Winner Cup quarter-finals
In whay will be the first official game of the 2023/24 season, Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv will go up against Ironi Kiryat Ata in the Winner Cup quarter finals on Tuesday (5:30 PM local, 10:30 AM ET). The yellows will look to advance to Thrusday's semis, where city rivals Hapoel await.

Oded Kattash left Lorenzo Brown and Jasiel Rivero out of his 12 men roster for the game, per league regulations. Maccabi's five foreign players will be Antonius Cleveland, James Webb, Wade Baldwin, Josh Nebo and Bonzie Colson.




Maccabi are the reigning champs of the tournament that gets the season under way. In fact, the yellows have one the last three editions of Winner Cup and 10 out of 17 in total since the competition was introduced. The Maccabee failed to reach the semi finals only twice.

Kiryat Ata reached the quarters by beating Hapoel Haifa 93:85 on the road. Sharon Avrahami's squad features returning forward Amin Stevens, big-man Greg Wittington who last year played for Hapoel Be'er Sheva and former Karlsheim guard James Batemon. Noticable on the team's list of Israeli players is 17-years-old Ben Saraf, who is considered a future star.

Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv set up a derby in the Winner Cup semi finals, after beating Ironi Kiryat Ata 95:71 On Tuesday. The yellows will face their city rivals on Thursday night in a battle for a spot in Sunday’s final, where the season’s first trophy will be hoisted.

The Israeli champs ran for a 16-point lead in the first half, but struggled with many players in foul trouble. That helped the northern team erase the deficit all the way to a 40:40 scoreline early in the third quarter.




At this stage, the Maccabees pulled away again, this time for goof, thanks to big plays by Bonzie Colson, John DiBartolomeo and Antonius Cleveland. Josh Nebo led six players in double figures with 16 points to go along with 7 boards; Colson added 14 and John-D finished with 13.

The game also saw young guard Omer Mayer, who will 17-years-old next month, get his first official game time as a first team player. Mayer scored consecutive threes in the final quarter to finish with 6 points.
