There were a lot of statements from Jerusalem in the last week. And for three quarters it looked like Hapoel Migdal are on their way to a famous victory. But at the end of the day Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv came out winners 100-98 and kept their 100% record in the Super League.
It was an excellent game although Maccabi were far from their best. Without Arnols & Penney and with a poor performance by Will Solomon (2-8 FG), it was a great chance for Erez Edelstein`s team. And they started brilliantly with a barrage of three pointers to lead 16-6 & 26-14. At the end of the first quarter Jerusalem held a 35-28 lead.
The hosts made it 48-36 but some fine play by Yaniv Green brought Maccabi back to 50-46 and 55-50 at half time.
Maccabi opened the third period with a 7-3 run to take their first lead 59058. But Jerusalem took control once more and with four minutes to go to the end of the period led 75-65. Baston committed his fourth foul and the period ended on 82-76 for the home team.
Two consecutive three pointers by Sharon Shason, cut the lead to 84-82. Tal Burstein missed three free throws but Nikola Vujcic gave Maccabi the lead with a three point play 85-84. The game was very exciting .Maccabi led 93-89 after a three point play by Anthony Parker. But Horace Jenkins leveled the score 93-93. Sharp made it 95-93. Baston missed two free throws and Tamar Slay scored one 96-95 for Jerusalem. But Shason penetrated and passed to Vujcic who converted another three point play and 98-96 for Maccabi. Sharp added two more from the line (100-960 and Tapiro scored to make the final score 100-98.
A huge game for Nikola Vujcic with 29 pts in 71%FG, 9 rbds & 2 assists. Anthony Parker played a great second half and finished with 16 pts, 5 rbds & 4 ass. Tal Burstein had 17 pts in 6o% FG, 8 ass & 4 rbds.
