In Givat Shmuel they hoped that Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv players will be under pressure after the frustrating weekend in Milano. But coach Pini Gershon used this game to get the confidence back to his players and to tighten up his defense.
Gershon used all the players available (Vujcic & Penney were left out). The defense was very efficient, mainly in the first half. Maccabi had a 52-32 lead at half time,
71-53 at the end of the third period and eventually won by 27 pts.
Maccabi enjoyed a good shooting night: 70% for 2 pts, 44% for three, 62% FG and 83% FT. Six players were in double figures. On the other hand there were still problems in rebounding (38-35 Maccabi) with Givat Shmuel pulling down 19 offensive rbds.
Maccabi were dominant in assists (21-8) and blocked shots (7-2).
An excellent game for Jamie Arnold: 25 min, 14 pts in 71% FG, 100% in FT, 8 rbds, 4 asts & 3 bsts.
Other Maccabi scorers: Burstein 15 & 6 asts, Solomon 15 & 5 asts, Baston 12, Sharp 12, Green 10 pts, 8 rbds & 3 bsts, Casspi 9, Shason 3, Fanan 3 pts.
Top scorer for Givat Shmuel was Yuval Naimi with 22 pts.
