Maybe it was unfair to ask the players of Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv and Maccabi Rishon Letsion to give their best in the freezing conditions at the NOKIA Arena. Maybe that is why Maccabi had 18 turnovers and only 57% for 2 pts. But the goal was to qualify to the Cup semi finals and this was achieved with the 89-84 win added to the 98-92 first leg win.
After 7-7 Maccabi ran 16-1 in four minutes and took a 23-8 lead. Eventually it proved to be enough for the win. From then on Guy Goodes team played on equal terms and even had a slight edge.
After 23-14 at the end of the first quarter, Rishon came back to 31-25. But a 7-0 run sent Maccabi to the break with a 49-36 lead. The third period was poor (17-17). Led by the brilliant Omar Snead, Rishon closed the gap to 73-68. With two seconds left Omri Casspi made it 89-81 but an incredible shot by Snead, from way behind the
Half way line, made the final score.
Maccabi had a successful night with their three pointes with 53& (10_19). Rishon had the edge in rebounds (32-26) and Maccabi in assists (23-15) and blocked shots
(6-0).
