Anyone who happened to be at the NOKIA Arena last night and saw the first half in the game between Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv & Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem, was certainly convinced that the Reds are those who will fly on Wednesday to Prague for the Final Four. Maccabi’s offense was poor and the 16 pts were scored by three players only: Baston 7, Sharp 5 & Vujcic 4 pts. Two three pointers by Meir Tapiro ended the first quarter with Jerusalem 24-16 up in spite of playing without the injured Jenkins & Markovic.
A three pointer by Tamar Slay. in a superb first half display, made it 27-16 and then came Will Solomon, who scored 16 pts in the second period and by half time Jerusalem’s lead was two points only (48-46). Slay scored 24 pts on 100% in FG and FT (4-4 four three).
Maccabi left out Nikola Vujcic for the second half with an ankle injury. But with Anthony Parker at his best, scoring the first 6 pts, Maccabi ran 13-0. Maccabi’s defense was outstanding and kept the visitors on 10 pts only in the quarter. Maccabi scored 23 and opened a 69-58 lead. Slay disappeared altogether and added only three more points. With five minutes from time, the lead was 80-61 on the way to the fourth win of the season over Jerusalem, 90-76.
Parker was the MVP for the night with an index rating of 33: He scored 16 pts in 50% FG & 100% FT, pulled down 7 rbds, made 8 steals, and dished out 6 assists. Will Solomon had 27 pts in 64% FG & 86% FT, 3 rbds, 3 asts & 2 steals. Derrick Sharp had 16 pts (4-7 for three).]
