Just over three weeks ago Maccabi suffered a 92-107 defeat in Jfar Blum. Tonight Maccabi players scored once more 93 pts. The difference was the defense which conceded 91 pts and so Maccabi won another difficult game.
This is still not Maccabi at its best and it looks like some of the weaknesses will remain until the end of the season. But the goal right now is to assure top place in the regular season and reach the Final Four on June 6, in top form
Maccabi were 8-14 down but ended the first quarter on equal terms 22-22. At half time Galil had a six pts lead (48-42) with only Jamie Arnold, who replaced Maceo Baston, playing at his best (17 pts).
The Yellow opened the third period with a 9-0 run and led 51-48. Galil replied with 6-0. Young Liron Cerna scored 8 pts for the hosts and Sharon Shason replied with 5 pt (62-62). Will Solomon made the score 66-65 to end the third period. Arnold continued his excellent game and was supported by Anthony Parker who scored of his pys in the final period. With 53 seconds to go Arnold missed his only FT and Maccabi led 91-89. Uche leveled with 44 seconds left ad Parkr scored again with 19 seconds to go.
With two seconds on the clock, Lior Liphshits tried a three pointer, missed and Arnold grabbed the rebound to make sure of the 93-91 victory.
Both teams were on a superb shooting night_ 2-ts – Galil 70%, Maccabi 61%, 3 pts – Maccabi 50%, Galil 42%, Free throws – Galil 88%, Maccabi 79%. Maccabi had the edge in rebounds (28-22) but Galil were dominant in assists (25-16).
Jamie Arnold, who scored 28 pts in Maccabi’s loss three weeks ago, surpassed himself with a personal record in the Israeli Laegue of 32 pts (the previous was 29 pts scored in the 1998/99 when he played gor Galil Elyon). He did that with 77% FG & 90% FT and added 7 rbds. Parker scored 18 pts and also had 4 rbds & 6 assists.
