Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv rounded out their training camp tournament with another decisive victory, this time over Telekom Baskets Bonn 109-91. Seven players scored in double figures, including Landesberg and Haynes with 15 and 14, respectively.
Coach Goodes gave the nod to Jeremy Pargo, MarQuez Haynes, Sylven Landesberg, Guy Pnini and Aleks Mari?. The Serbian center put Maccabi up 4-0 within a minute and a half, but the next four minutes belonged to the Germans, who cruised to 14-8. Mari? continued to score, and together with Pnini and Haynes (with a dunk off a great assist by Pargo) narrowed the gap to 14-12. The star of the last two games, Landesberg, drew a technical foul which kicked off a 14-0 scoring run that gave Maccabi a 22-14 lead with three minutes left in the period. Bonn recovered quickly and cut their deficit to 27-23.
Maccabi protected their lead in the early minutes of the second quarter, 36-3, thanks to points by Brian Randle, Mari?, and Haynes. The latter played especially well, giving Maccabi a 47-40 lead with three minutes left in the half. Jake Cohen added points in the paint, while two straight triples by Pargo and one from Pnini extended the Euroleague champions’ lead to 58-42.
In the third quarter, Landesberg and Mari? kept the lead comfortable, 67-52 after four minutes. Cohen continued scoring, and even a time out by Bonn’s coach didn’t help the Germans. Maccabi’s lead swelled to 75-55 with three minutes remaining in the period. The hosts were able to chip away at that lead, and time ran out with the score 79-63.
Bonn opened the fourth period with four straight points, but Nate Linhart and Haynes went to work, reopening Maccabi’s lead to 84-67 with six minutes left in the game. A last gasp effort by the Germans put them within twelve, 93-81, but another run by Maccabi sealed the deal, with a three pointer by Yogev Ohayon from close to half court wrapping things up and giving Maccabi a 109-91 victory over Telekom Baskets Bonn.
