In the next to last game of the Israeli Winner Sal League regular season, Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv easily defeated Ironi Nahariya 98-72 in a rare Friday afternoon game at Menorah Mivtachim. Sylven Landesberg was outstanding with 27 points (6/6 from three), Devin Smith was also impressive with 25 points (6/7 from three). Nate Linhart contributed 10 points and 9 rebounds
Starters for Maccabi were Nate Linhart, Jeremy Pargo, Devin Smith, Jake Cohen, and Yogev Ohayon. The early minutes of the game were dominated by Nahariya's Lawson, who led his team to a 10-2 lead. Smith and Sylven Landesberg scored from downtown to put Maccabi back in the game, and the run continued with more points by the duo, completing a 16-1 run with three minutes left in the period. Landesberg and Smith continued to light up the scoreboard, and the quarter ended with Maccabi up 34-21.
The second period was a continuation of the first, as Smith, Landesberg, and Jake Cohen brought Maccabi to 44-28 after five minutes. The home team also played well on defense, breaking Nahariya's plays and converting steals to points at the other end. A triple by Linhart (assist Pargo) wrapped up the half with Maccabi holding a 54-35 lead.
Four straight three pointers (Landesberg twice, Smith, and Ohayon) gave Maccabi a 67-39 lead two and a half minutes into the second half. Nahariya was lacking at both ends of the court, as Sofo and Ohayon extended Maccabi's lead to 75-41 at the halfway mark. Five straight points by Landesberg, including a dunk off a no-look oop from Linhart, put Maccabi's lead at 80-50 with two and a half minutes left in the period. Young Israeli players Arad Harari and Ben Altit subbed into the game at that point, and the period ended with the score 84-53.
The fourth quarter was mainly devoted to giving the youngsters the opportunity to play, and the result was a natural decline on both offense and defense. Nahariya took advantage, cutting their deficit to 17 at one point, but Cohen, Pargo, and Linhart protected Maccabi's lead, and the game ended in a 98-72 victory for Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv over Ironi Nahariya and a lock on first place in the Israeli Winner Sal League.
