For the most part, Maccabi Fox Tel Aviv had trouble keeping up with Real Madrid, but a third quarter 16:0 run made 11 thousand people believe. In the end, Maccabi came up short and Real walked away with a 89:82 win that dropped Maccabi to 0:2 in Euroleague play.
The first half was all Madrid. Maccabi's defensive problem were on display and the half ended with a 13 point deficit. That deficit was completely wiped off by a Weems, Seeley and Rudd led 16:0 run that saw Maccabi take the lead. But the Spaniards got back on top towards the end of the quarter and maintained the lead through strong play from Llull and Carroll.
Rudd led Maccabi with 18 points, Goudelock scored 16 and Weems 15. Seeley and Iverson scored 10 each, Zirbes got 6, Smith 5 and Ohayon 2.
Erez Edelstein sadi: "Our fans cheered for us in the end because they knew we left everything on the court. We managed to get back into the game in the second half but it's not enough against a team like Real". Andrew Goudelock added: "I feel like we're at the same level as these teams. We came back in a very encouraging way in the third quarter and I'm just sad it wasn't enough. There's a long season ahead of us, and if we keep playing like this and fighting together, we'll be alright".
