You really can't ask for more in an away game against Panathinaikos, especially after struggling on offense for most of the game and trailing by 12 in the fourth quarter. Maccabi Fox Tel Aviv fought back with a 15:0 run and came within touching distance from a prestigious road win, but the game went into overtime that ended in a 75:83 loss that dropped the team to 2:4 in Euroleague play.
The game seemed out of hand when Chris Singelton scored to give Pao a 64:52 with under 6 minutes to play but a Victor Rudd 3 pointer sparked a run that managed to get Maccabi all the way back to a 67:64 lead with 2 minutes left. The Greeks scored the next 3 points and with 10 seconds left, Devin Smith drove to the basket and got a decent look but the ball bounced out and the game went in to overtime. There Smith and Colton Iverson fouled out and Maccabi couldn't keep pace with Pao.
Sonny Weems scored 15 with 5 assists and 4 rebounds, Andrew Goudelock got 14, Maik Zirbes 12 and Devin Smith 11 with 12 boards. Colton Iverson scored 8, DJ Seeley 6 and Rudd, Pnini and Ohayon got 3 each.
Rami Hadar said: "this was a missed opportunity. We had the game won at the end of regulation but sometimes you need some luck too. Offensively we had some ups and downs but I feel like we played better defense and we are on the right track. We have to maintain this spirit that helps us get back into games and we definitely have to win the next game at home".
Devin Smith said: "it was an up and down kind of game. We managed to get back into it but ended up missing shots we usually make. We spend so much energy getting back, we didn't have any left when it got to overtime. We certainly have a lot to learn. We need to fix mistakes and get better but this is still only November. I have no doubt we'll get better".
Maccabi plays Herzeliya on Saturday before hosting Fenerbache on Tuesday.
