Maccabi Fox Tel Aviv suffered its worst defeat of the season, at the hands of Red Star Belgrade. It was a 58:83 thumping that dropped Maccabi to 5:7 in Euroleague play.
18 turnovers, 6 of which came in the first quarter, sealed Maccabi's fate, along with 6 of 23 from outside, and maybe the most shocking stat of them all – not a single free throw attempt for the entire night.
The home team charged out of the gate, looking to snap a losing streak of its own. Maccabi seemed to get off to a good start on defense, leading 12:9 midway through the first quarter, but from that point on, there is nothing good to be said about the way Rami Hadar's players preformed.
The deficit got all the way up to 30 points with the last quarter serving as nothing more than garbage time. DJ Seeley led Maccabi scorers with 15 points, Andrew Goudelock had 13 and Maik Zirbes 10. Maccabi plays Gilboa in the Israeli state cup round of 16 on Sunday, before playing host to CSKA Moscow on Wednsday.
