Maccabi Fox Tel Aviv will continue its preseason schedule tomorrow (21:00), with a special exhibition match against Panathinaikos. The game is part of a tournament honoring Dimitris Diamantidis, who retired at the end of last season after an illustrious career.
"When the invitation came, we didn't hesitate for a second", said Coach Erez Edelstein, "We're proud to be here. Every time Dimitris came to play in Tel Aviv, he was shown tremendous respect. I believe that he's considered a true legend, not just by Maccabi fans, but by all fans of Israeli basketball". At one point, Edelstein even turned to Diamantidis himself, asking: "Are you sure you're done?"
Maccabi captain, Guy Pnini, added: "There's so much to say about him as a player. We've has so many great matches against him. One memory that stayed with me came when I was a new player. Derrick Sharp came to me during one game and said: "Don't try to pass when Diamantidis is around cause he'll pick you right off. He was just a tremendous defensive player".
