Finally, some smiles in the yellow camp. After another tough week, the team showed energy from the start and enjoyed a career night by Joe Alexander and big 3’s by Devin Smith in-route to an 88 – 74 win and a season sweep of Rishon Leziyon. On Thursday: Galil/Gilboa will arrive to the Yad Eliyahu arena for the final regular season home game, before the start of the playoffs.
Starting for Maccabi were Gal Mekel, Sylven Landesberg, Victor Rudd, Quincy Miller and Colton Iverson. Landesberg and Iverson were hot at the beginning with the team coming up with steals (14 total in the game), loose balls and transition points on its way to a 32 – 18 1st quarter lead. Joe Alexander took over with post moves in the 2nd quarter and combined with 3’s from Mekel and DJ Seeley who returned from injury, Maccabi led 52 – 32 at halftime, with Alexander already scoring 15 points.
Rishon Leziyon came back in the 2nd half, trimming the lead to 8 twice: in the 3rd Q and at the start of the 4th, 69 – 61. But Alexander (finished with 25, 10-11 fg), Smith (15 points) and a 3-pointer from Landesberg sealed the win for Maccabi Tel Aviv, 88 – 74., The win moves the club closer to securing home-court advantage in the playoffs with only two regular season games remaining, vs. Gilboa/Galil and Ashdod.
