Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv has signed guard Joe Thomasson until the end of the season. The 1.93 M (6'4'') playmaker will join the team from Coviran Granada after Maccabi activated his buy-out clause. Thomasson is familiar with Israeli basketball after spending two seasons at Gilboa/Galil, helping the team reach the finals in 2021.
30-year-old Thomasson is an experienced combo-guard who can do a little bit of everything. He is compfortable playing out of the pick-and-roll and knows how to get to his spots for mid-range jump shots. He maintains good percentages from the three point line throughout his career and plays with passion and energy.
"As I close one chapter in my life, I open a new one. With this new experience, I’m super excited about representing the franchise of Maccabi Tel Aviv", Joe Thomasson told maccabi.co.il. "It will be an honor to play for this historical club. I look forward to meeting my teammates, the coaching staff, as well as the amazing fans. Thank you for giving me this opportunity. I’m sure it will be great. Yalla, Maccabi!".
In 20 ACB League games with the Granada jersey this season, Thomasson delivered 14.1 points per game along with 3.4 assists and 1.1 steals. The native of Dayton, Ohio, scored 17 points per game in his first season in Israel, and 14.2 in his second while leading Gilboa to a shot at the championship.
