Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv picked up Jasiel Rivero’s team option, and the Cuban center will remain with the Israeli champions for a second season. “Papi” blended in smoothly and was an integral part of the yellows’ playoffs run in the EuroLeague and dominant Israeli league campaign.
“I am very happy to be back for the next season”, said Rivero, “I can’t wait to see all the fans again, thank you all for the support. Yalla Maccabi!”.
"Jasiel Rivero will continue to bring us his energy and his basketball qualities. This continuity is important on and off the court," said coach Oded Kattash.
Jasiel Rivero proved himself as one of the toughest and most positive players on the team last season, and served as a strong offensive tool off the bench on every given evening. In his first season in a non-Spanish speaking country, Rivero showed off his feel for the game, good touch and great finishing ability off of the pick-and-roll, especially combining with point guard Tamir Blatt.
The Cuban, who joined Maccabi from Valencia last summer, ranked third in the Israeli league in points per minute (0.62), fourth in rebounds per minute (0.3) and third in offensive rebounds per game (2.9). He finished the season with 12.1 PPG and 5.9 RPG in Israel, while posting 7.6 PPG and 3.1 RPG in only 15:37 minutes per game in the EuroLeague. He also came up clutch in the championship game against Hapoel Tel Aviv, scoring 16 points and collecting 8 boards in the win.
