Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv bolstered its backcourt by securing the services of combo guard Daryl Macon Jr., who signed a 1+1 deal. An explosive scorer (1.88 M, 6 ft 2 in), Macon previously played in the EuroLeague with Panathinaikos and is coming off a season in China.
Macon will add a lot of firepower to the yellow offense, being able to shoot at an impressive clip from all ranges. He is also a great playmaker and facilitator that can bring the ball up the court and run plays at a high level.
"I am super excited to finally get a chance to play in front of the Maccabi fans", said Daryl Macon Jr. "I've heard so much about it. I've heard nothing but great things about the amazing organization. I am thankful for the chance to return to the main stage in the EuroLeague. Let's have a great season!"
"We are really glad that Daryl Macon is on our side", confirmed head coach Oded Kattash, adding: "He is a special player who possesses great capabilities and can play both guard positions, which gives us more depth and quality".
Maccabi's sporting director, Avi Even, added: "I am very happy that a guy like Daryl joins the squad. He is a talented and high-level player who plays with passion and brings versatile offensive capabilities. Daryl will fit in with our style of play and the team's character".
Daryl Macon Jr. is a native of Little Rock, Arkansas, where he was born on November 29th, 1995, the son of Deloise and Daryl Sr. He began his collegiate career in Holmes Community College in neighboring Mississippi but made the transfer to Arkansas after his sophomore year. He kept impressing in the Greek capital, scoring 16.9 PPG, dishing over 3 APG and hitting 44.4% from 3-point range in the local league.
In 2021, Macon moved to Panathinaikos and delivered 13.1 PPG and 3.6 APG with the greens in the EuroLeague. After a season, he signed for UNICS Kazan, leading the team to a VTB championship and earning a spot on the First Team All-VTB team. Last season, he played for Shenzhen Aviators in China, with averages of 18.9 PPG, 6.1 APG and 3.5 RPG to his name, shooting 42.5% from outside the arc.
