The Maccabi Tel Aviv Basketball Club joins the basketball world in mourning the loss of Dusan Ivkovic, one of the greatest European basketball coaches of all times, who passed away at the age of 77. Ivkovic won the EuroLeague title twice as coach of Olympiacos and the EuroBasket three times as coach of Yugoslavia and Serbia. His illustrious coaching career spanned five decades and included stints at CSKA Moscow, Anadolu Efes and Partizan Belgrade.
Maccabi’s head coach, Giannis Sfairopoulos, said of the memorable colleague: “Du?an Ivkovi? was a European and Global legendary basketball figure. A teacher of many generations of players, and also coaches. Through his work he inspired countless athletes, his colleagues the coaches, as well as the fans and supporters of the sport. Through his coaching he contributed greatly to the evolution of basketball. His many successes and his nurturing of numerous players through the years are his legacy within the edifice of basketball, and shall remain an eternal source of study and inspiration”.
