Maccabi Loses in Nahariya 76-70

Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv lost on the road to Ironi Nahariya 76-70 in round 9 of the Israeli Winner Sal League. Smith finished with a double double of 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv lost on the road to Ironi Nahariya 76-70 in round 9 of the Israeli Winner Sal League.  Devin Smith finished with a double double of 19 points and 10 rebounds, Jordan Farmar added 17 points, and Ike Ofoegbu contributed 12 points.

Starters for Maccabi were Devin Smith, Brian Randle, Guy Pnini, Taylor Rochestie, and Trevor Mbakwe. The yellows grabbed a 9-3 lead early in the game thanks to a three pointer by Smith and points in the paint by Randle. The hosts woke up and went to work, grabbing a 15-14 lead with less than 2 minutes left in the period. Jordan Farmar, Ike Ofoegbu, and Itay Segev kept Maccabi close, but the quarter ended with the visitors trailing 21-20.

After nearly three scoreless minutes, Farmar put the lead back in Maccabi’s hands with a drive to the basket. The lead continued to change hands, with Smith tying the score at 26 halfway through the quarter. Segev added a dunk off an assist from Ofoegbu, and Randle with points in the paint put Maccabi up 32-28. Smith drained his second triple of the game and Rochestie from the foul line extended Maccabi’s lead, but Nahariya scored at the buzzer to end the half with Maccabi up by two, 37-35.

The home team scored seven straight and took a 42-39 lead three minutes into the third quarter. Smith scored from downtown (assist Randle) to tie the score, and Farmar added seven points but that didn’t bother Nahariya, who cruised to 57-49 with one minute left. A huge trey by Smith ended the period with Maccabi trailing 57-52.

Smith and Ofoegbu each scored a bucket and one at the start of the final period to tie the score at 58. Nahariya went up by four, but Farmar and Rochestie put Maccabi within one. The hosts once again went up by four, only to have Smith and Farmar give Maccabi a 67-65 lead with less than three minutes left in the game. The pattern continued as Nahariya reclaimed the lead, only to have Ofoegbu tie the score at 70 with a minute left. The home team stayed focused and scored six unanswered points to claim a 76-70 victory over Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv.
