"We have somethings to be optimistic about"
Coach Giannis Sfairopoulos before the game against Fenerbahce: "We analyzed the mistakes from our yesterday’s game, hopefully we will play better in our next game". John DiBartolomeo: "It’ll be a process"
“This is something unexpected but can happen in our life when we travel so much” said coach Giannis Sfairopoulos about the delayed flight. “Small things can happen like today. We tried to take advantage and to do whatever we can at this moment, that’s why we organized a video session here at the airport. Unfortunately we don’t have time to practice, we will come late to Tel Aviv, it’s very important now to focus for our next game. Today we analyzed the mistakes from our yesterday’s game, hopefully we will play better in our next game, this is what we want to improve our game from day to day, from practice to practice and from game to game”.
“It’s been a really long day, flight got pushed back a couple of hours”, said John DiBartolomeo. “We tried to make the most of our time, we had a video session, tried to learn something from our last game to learn for tomorrow and come as prepared as we can. He’s trying to incorporate his stuff the best that he can as fast as he can, obviously it’ll be a process but I think it’s moving in the right direction we have somethings to be optimistic about”.
Maccabi loses 70:74 to Fenerbahce at home
The yellows finished the first half ahead but Fenerbache manage to take the lead in the third quarter and kept it till the final buzzer. Caloiaro's heroic performance of 17P and 6R was not enough
Coach Sfairopoulos’ starting five: O’Bryant, Wilbekin, Kane, Black and Caloiaro. Caloiaro was the first to score, Melli reacted but Scottie and Kane made sure that Maccabi will remain ahead with just over four minutes into the game (6:2). Sloukas scored from deep but Kane and Johnny reacted to keep Maccabi ahead 12:7. Ray increased Maccabi’s lead to 16:9 but Sloukas Melih reacted with Fener trailing 16:13 at the end of the first quarter.
Zoosman increased Maccabi’s lead to 18:13 at the beginning of the second quarter, Fener reacted but Avdija who saw his first EuroLeague minutes scored to keep Maccabi’s
five point lead (20:15). Datome competed a 7:0 run for the visitors who took the 20:22 lead. Both teams traded blows from distance as Maccabi took the 28:27 lead with just over four minutes remaining in the game. Maccabi capitalized on both ends of the floor Black completed a three point play to make it 36:30. Caloiaro connected with Johnny to make it 40:32 but Fener reacted but Ray was the last to score in the first half with Maccabi leading 41:36.Caloiaro and Black increased Maccabi’s lead at the beginning of the third quarter (45:39), Sloukas and Vesely completed Fener’s comeback however it was short lived as Ray scored from deep to give Maccabi the 50:49 edge. Vesely connected with Sloukas giving the visitors the 50:53 lead forcing Coach Sfairopoulos to call for a timeout. Tyus scored for Maccabi but Ali reacted from the free throw line to keep Fener ahead 55:52
however Kane made one of his two free throw as Maccabi trail 53:55 with the third quarter coming to an end.Tyus tied the game at the beginning of fourth but Vesely made both of his free throws to keep the visitors ahead 55:57. Tyus tied the game again but Fener capitalized with a
four point play to take the 57:61 lead. Caloiaro scored from downtown to keep Maccabi in the game (62:64). Guduric scored five points to increase the visitors lead to 62:69. Wilbekin scored five points to bring Maccabi closer to the visitors (68:73). Caloiaro’s hustle payed off big time as he kept Maccabi alive (70:73). Vesely scored one of his two free throws to secure the 70:74 win for the visitors.
