Maccabi hosts Zalgiris, looking to get a third consecutive Euroleague win
Tuesday at Menora-Mivtachim Arena: The Yellows will face the Lithuanians, who are still without a European win this season. Ante Zizic: "We are starting to find our rhythm"
The Lithuanians arrive in Tel Aviv with a bag of problems after replacing their head coach and losing 5 Euroleague games in a row. Yet, Giannis Sfairopoulos showed much respect for his team’s next opponent. “It is going to be a very difficult game,” the Greek coach said. “We know Zalgiris wants to get a first Euroleague win, so we need to be focused and avoid any surprises.”
“It took us some time to get into shape. It is natural without preparation, but now I feel that we are getting into the right rhythm”, added Ante Zizic, who returned to play against Panathinaikos after long weeks out with an injury. “Personally, I’m in good shape, but the main thing is that the team plays well and wins”.
Like his coach, Keenan Evans also spoke about the fragile yet dangerous state Zalgiris is in right now. “It’s always tough to face someone who hasn’t won yet because he’s hungry. We have to focus on ourselves, play hard, and get a win”.
Maccabi leads the head to head with Zalgiris 18:9 in the last two decades. Last season the yellows defeated the Lithuanians at Menora-Mivtachim Arena by 28 points. On Tuesday, they will settle for a one-point margin too.

Maccabi enjoyed a great evening from Derrick Williams, who scored 17 points, and a solid performance from Keenen Evans, who added 13. Both covered for Scottie Wilbekin, who had just five tonight.
With this win, Giannis Sfairopoulos’ team advanced to a 4:2 record 48 hours before Barcelona arrives in Tel Aviv. The clash with the Spanish powerhouse will be, without a doubt, the most challenging game in this stretch of 5 straight home games, but eleven thousand yellow fans in a packed arena can surely make the difference.
