On Sunday: Maccabi faces Hapoel in Winner's cup final
The Yellows will battle their city rivals for the first title of the season. Kattash: "I am well aware of all the meanings this derby has"
Only five foreign players will be able to take part in the game, and Maccabi’s squad will include Lorenzo Brown, Wade Baldwin, Rafi Menko, Roman Sorkin, Guy Pnini, John DiBartolomeo, Jake Cohen, Tomer Agmon, Alex Poythress, Josh Nebo, Yiftach Ziv, and Bonzie Colson.
“I am aware of what a game against Hapoel Tel Aviv for a title means”, said Oded Kattash ahead of the final. “We approach this game with all seriousness and respect. We will come to fight and I’m sure the atmosphere will be amazing”.
“We are very satisfied with the wins this week in the Euroleague. It was important for us to build momentum before the derby,” added the Yellows captain, John DiBartolomeo. “We want to win every game against Hapoel, and this time it’s also a battle for a title so it’s even more important”.
Maccabi tops Hapoel, wins first title of the season
The Yellows fought their way to claiming Winner's cup trophy after an overtime victory (88:84) over the Reds. Alex Poythress shined with 24 points
Maccabi was dominant and led almost throughout the whole game, backed by an MVP performance from Alex Poythress (24 points and eight rebounds). The Reds came back in the last quarter and forced an overtime, but Lorenzo Brown (20 points and nine rebounds) kept his and the team’s composure and made sure the cup will land in Maccabi’s trophy cabinet.
The celebrations wil continue tonight, but on Thursday, the Yellows will return to Euroleague action when they host Panthinaikos at Menora Mivtachim Arena.
