On Thursday: Maccabi hopes to clinch playoffs spot

Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv is one win away from securing its place in the Euroleague playoffs, a goal the Yellows can complete on Thursday (21:00 local, 2 pm ET) when they host Villeurbanne at Menora Mivtachim Arena. Khyri Thomas, who didn’t play against Panathinaikos, will return to the roster.
Avi Even paid respect to the French visitors, despite the fact they lost 9 of the last ten games they played. “We have a very important game against a good and talented team,” Maccabi’s coach said. “We are focused only on winning the game and not on our playoffs chances.”
“The recent victories we achieved were very important to us,” Ante Zizic added. “It was a step towards our goal, the playoffs. We did not give up at any stage, believed in each other, and are very close now”.

The Yellows routed Villeurbanne 94:73 and secured a ticket to the top 8 for the second time in 3 years. Zizic led Maccabi with 24 points

For the second time in three years, Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv qualified for the Euroleague playoffs, by beating ASVEL Villeurbanne 94:73 at home. And this time, unlike in the 2019/20 season that was stopped because of the pandemic, the Yellows will have a real chance to play in the knockout stage (something they haven’t done since 2015).
The first half was nothing to write home about. Maccabi led but couldn’t create a significant run. That happened only in the second half, thanks to another fabulous performance from Ante Zizic (24 points) and a lot of great moves by Wilbekin and Nunnally.
Maccabi now holds a 15:11 record and is ranked fifth in the table. The Yellows’ opponent in the playoffs is yet to be determined but will most likely be Olympiacos, Milano, or Real Madrid.
