Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv had hoped to build on the momentum of its fantastic performance in game 1 against Monaco, secure a second away win, and take a commanding 2-0 lead in the Euroleague quarterfinals series. However, reality did not meet expectations. In a tense game where Maccabi players were assessed six technical fouls, the Yellows fell 74-86 to the French and will need to recover in game 3.

The odds were against Maccabi, as only two teams in the history of the Euroleague playoffs have won games 1 and 2 away. Nevertheless, the good news is that Maccabi still has its fate in its hands. Two home wins on Tuesday and Thursday will grant the Yellows the coveted ticket to the Final Four, an event they have been absent from since 2014.

This evening will be remembered for two main events. The first was Monaco's run in the third quarter (25-13), effectively deciding the outcome. The second was the six technical fouls assessed to Maccabi players, which led to the ejections of both Wade Baldwin (17 points) and Darrun Hilliard. We can only hope that these events will motivate the Yellows even more next week. See you on Tuesday.
