Maccabi Rapyd Tel Aviv wrapped up its preparation tournament in Belgrade in perfect fashion, defeating the host team Partizan Belgrade 103–96. The Yellows led almost throughout the entire game and enjoyed excellent three-point shooting, with Jeff Dowtin Jr. leading the way with 19 points.
Lonnie Walker IV sat out due to elbow pain, while Jaylen Hoard and Roman Sorkin have yet to rejoin the team after participating in FIBA EuroBasket. But even without them, Oded Kattash’s squad looked sharp and controlled the game, especially on the offensive end.
Alongside Dowtin Jr., T.J. Leaf also stood out with 16 points. Will Rayman added 12, Tamir Blatt scored 11, and Oshae Brissett finished with 10. The Yellows knocked down 15 three-pointers at a 52% clip, dominated the boards with 43 rebounds compared to their opponent’s 19, and continued building chemistry ahead of the new season.
“True, these are two EuroLeague teams, but both with very depleted rosters,” summarized coach Oded Kattash. “It wasn’t really a game at that level. There were some minutes that were more competitive, but still, it was a game played back-to-back. It’s mainly important for our learning process — to watch, to correct. For some players, especially the new additions, it’s even more important. Overall, we had two good days from which we can learn a lot, but the road ahead is still long.”
“Like every exhibition game, it’s meant to prepare us for the season as best as possible,” noted Gur Lavy. “I’m new to the EuroLeague too, so I need to adapt to the level, play together, get to know the players — each one, his character, and what he brings. From game to game we’re improving, reading each other better, and it also feels that way for us. We’re also learning more about the coach — this is basically the best kind of practice.”
