Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv wanted to finish the domestic league regular season on a high note as they faced Bnei Herzelia on the road. Spahija's squad was firing on all cylinders as they took the 16:40 lead early in the second quarter. The locals managed to cut Maccabi's lead to just 10 points in the fourth quarter but Pargo and Roll remained poised as Maccabi got the 85:97 win on the road. Spahija's squad finished the regular season as the number one seed with a record of 23:10.
Coach Spahija: "I would like to congratulate my players for the way we started the game and for the fact that we finished the regular season with a win. We created a big advantage and played in a high tempo in the first quarter. I’m happy that we managed to maintain our lead throughout the game against a good team. We turned the ball over only 9 times, and we take care of the ball we also manage to execute. Now we’re going to face in the playoffs a tough team who already beat us this season, we're all going to have to step up".
"This was our goal" said Alex Tyus after Maccabi claimed the first seed in the domestic league standings. "Throughout the season we competed in the EuroLeague and sometimes we struggled to make the switch to the Israeli league, but in the last few weeks we managed to remain focused and we're in a good momentum".
When asked about the previous week Alex said "We tried to be ready for the rest of the regular season and playoffs and I think we're ready. Ness Ziona is a good team and they have a pretty good match up with us, they have good shooters for three points but we are ready for that. We need to keep our rhythm and to keep going and hopefully to win the championship".
