Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv has done it! The Yellow & Blue dominated the domestic competition, winning the Israeli double (League Championship and State Cup), and on record, don't forget the preseason Winner Cup. After a perfect Israeli Winner League Playoffs coming into the Final Series, Giannis Sfairopoulos's squad faced Hapoel Gilboa/Galil, a tough and firm opponent that came back in Game 3 producing a nerve-racking finish to determine the league champions.
In the final two minutes, the quality, the experience, and the teamwork of Maccabi with ten thousand roaring fans pushing them in Menora Mivtachim Arena were the difference in the 73:67 victory granting the club its fourth consecutive league title and the clubs 55th Israeli championship.
"I want to congratulate our players, this so sweet because we played 79 games, and we won all three Israeli tiles. It was unique, and the best part is, we got to celebrate it with our fans", Summarised head coach Giannis Sfairopoulos. "I can't explain how difficult it is to win it all, especially without knowing how the season would end. We started it with COVID surrounding us, playing without our fans, and later on, there was the bombing. It was very hard for the players to keep their conditioning and concentration".
Finals MVP Scottie Wilbekin expressed his feelings after lifting the title: "I'm proud of the way we finished it off, we fought and showed character. I'm glad we can go home and rest and then get ready for a new season".
Maccabi's captain John DiBartolomeo added: "We play all year to end the season on a high note. I'm so happy after such a long season, we put it together and won it. This year there were so many challenges, the coaches and staff deserve a lot of credit, we stuck together and did it. It's also a goal to win everything in Israel, and I think we should be proud of what we accomplished this year".
"From day one, we got better and better as the season progressed", Told Ante Zizic. "All of us came here to win as many trophies as we can, and we did it. I think we did a great job. Unfortunately, my back didn't feel well, but I told them I would be there for the team and do the best I can".
