The Israel National Team reached the quarter finals of the European Championship after a dramatic win in Lulea vs Slovenia 78-76.
Israel were 17 pts down in the first quarter but a fighting display brought them back into the game and they even led 66-56 in the final quarter. But fatigue was a main factor and Slovenia ran 14-0 and with a minute to go led 75-73. A three pointer by captain Yoav Saffar 38 seconds from time and a winning basket by Tal Burstein with 2.6 seconds to go, assured the victory and a meeting with Spain on Thursday (19:00) in Stockholm.
Burstein had 13 pts, 2 rbds & 2 assists. Derrick Sharp scored 9 pts. Saffar 8 pts, 5 rbds & 4 assists ans Gur Shelef 3 pts. Yaniv Green led Israel with 14 pts & 10 rbds.
