The Israel National Team will take part in the European Basketball Championship which will start on Friday, 16/09/05 in Serbia-Montenegro. This after winning the 16th and final place by beating the Czech Republic 83-78 & Hungary 83-69 in the additional qualifying tournament in Novo Sad.
The National Team captain Tal Burstein was the top Israeli player. Against the Czechs he scored 16 pts, pulled down 7 rbds & dished out 4 assists. Against Hungary he scored 17 pts, pulled down 5 rbds & dished out 2 assists. Yaniv Green was also in fine form with 14 pts & 4 rbds vs the Czechs & 15 pts & 7 rbds vs Hungary. Sharon Shason had an excellent game vs the Czechs with 11 pts & 4 rebounds.
The Israeli team will remain in Novi Sad where the Group D games will be played. Israel plays Latvia on Friday, Serbia-Montenegro on Saturday & Spain on Sunday.
