Maccabi granted its permission but chairman Mizrahi made it clear that the system is unfair
The competition system of the Israeli Basketball Super League will remain the same in the next two seasons, after Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv granted its permission to the decision. The league will be decided in a Final Four format like in the previous and current seasons. Chairman Shimon Mizrahi and the club’s management made it clear they find the Final Four system unfair and unjustice, but voted in favor to avoid a split in the league. “Maccabi Elite is sure in its right position to this day, as it was in the past, that the Final Four system is wrong and unsportsmanlike, without any precedence in Europe and the NBA,” says the official press release. “It’s not sportsmanlike and reasonable that after a team made big efforts to win as many games as possible during 27 league regular season games, the destiny of the title will depend on one game in the semi-finals and another single game in the finals.” “Maccabi Elite had the option to use its veto right to object the Final Four system, but that would have create a split in the league – something we would like to avoid.” “Since the decision counts only for the following two seasons, and after the matter will be re-discussed, agreed Maccabi Elite to the Final Four system despite it’s a wrong system.”
