The Euroleague groups draw will be held in Italy on Saturday afternoon. Maccabi is on the second level
Three days before the 2007-08 Euroleague Draw, Maccabi Tel Aviv already knows it will meet Unicaja Malaga for sure in the first group stage. That’s because the seeding chart for the draw, which divides the 24 teams into eight levels of three teams each, is already in the hands of the clubs.
Due to the restriction that 2 teams from the same country cannot coincide in the same regular season group, Barcelona and Tau, who belongs to the second level like Maccabi, can’t meet Malaga (1st level).
Maccabi has a good chance of drawing Pini Gershon and Olympiacos or David Blatt and Efes Pilsen. Maccabi can’t draw both ex-coaches, because both teams are on the third level.
The seeding system is used to avoid the possibility that the luck of the draw will land the top teams from the 2006-07 Euroleague into the same first-round group next season.
The main criteria for the seeding levels is team performance during the the last Euroleague season, starting with teams who had the best results in the Final Four, Quarterfinal and Top 16.

The 2007-08 Euroleague Draw, which will start at 16:15 local time, is the highlight of multiple events being held in Jesolo, Italy.
