Last season, it took 15 rounds for Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv to win its second road EuroLeague game. This season, a season in which the word Road got a new meaning, the yellows were much quicker to the milestone. Oded Kattash and his men prevailed in Milano by a 98:90 scoreline on Tuesday, winning its second road game of the campaign after just five rounds.
Coming off of a bad loss in Monaco, the Israeli champs bounces back in the best possible way. Being out of home for about three weeks and still missing Wade Baldwin, Maccabi played a great offensive game, led by Lorenzo Brown.
Maccabi’s point guard scored 20 points and dished 12 assists, tying his personal best and Maccabi’s EuroLeague record – a feat he himself set just a fortnight ago. It was his third game of the season with more than 10 assists and he leads the league with 8.8 per game.
But it wasn’t all Lorenzo. On his 30th birthday, Jasiel Rivero delivered his best performance with the Maccabi uniform, leading the team’s scorers with 21. Bonzie Colson continued his great start to the season with 16 points, while Antonius Cleveland contributed 15. Josh Nebo had 14 points and Tamir Blatt amassed 7 dimes of his own.
The win propelled Maccabi to a 3-2 record in the competition, good enough for the 9th position in the standings. Up next is a “home” game in Belgrade against Bayern Munich next Thursday.
