It was tough and nerve-wracking, but at this stage, a win is a win. Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv kicked off the 2022/23 campaign with a difficult 84:83 home victory over Zalgiris Kaunas in front of a full house and started the Euroleague season with a smile and room for optimism.
Maccabi showed how great its potential is, but also how much work still needs to be done. There were moments of fantastic basketball, and alongside them, moments, when the defense just couldn’t find solutions.
Lorenzo Brown provided 13 points and 11 assists – thus equaling Maccabi’s assist record in the Euroleague; Bonzie Colson provided a spark in the second half with 8 straight points out of 16 total in the game.
On Saturday night, Oded Kattash’s team will return to its home floor to meet Ironi Ness Ziona in the first round of the Winner League.
