Maccabi Fox Tel Aviv remains undefeated at home after an impressive 77:55 win over Bayern Munich, to improve to 8:4 in the EuroLeague. Yovel Zoosman was incredible, finishing as the MVP with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Scottie Wilbekin continued his great stretch scoring 16 points, as Othello Hunter performed well, ending his night with 15 points. The Yellow & Blue will open next week with two home games on Sunday versus Holon in the Israeli Premier League, and on Thursday against the European champions, CSKA Moscow.
Nate Wolters, Deni Avdija, Scottie Wilbekin, Quincy Acy, and Tarik Black opened in Giannis Sfairopoulos’s starting five. Black scored the first two baskets of the game, 4:0. The Germans stayed close, Koponen hit a three-pointer to give them an 11:9 advantage. Maccabi responded well after a Giannis Sfairopoulos timeout with Bryant draining back-to-back threes that led the Yellow & Blue on an 8:0 run on it’s way to a 17:11 edge. Greg Monroe rallied the visitors back into the game, 22:18 Maccabi, after one.
At the start of the second quarter, Scottie Wilbekin and Othello Hunter were in charge of a 13:2 run that gave the Israeli champions a 35:20 lead. Maccabi kept on running away from the visitors, which included a beautiful dunk by Zoosman, 41:26, at the half.
The Yellow & Blue momentum continued in the third, Wilbekin was in command hitting two more shots from behind the arc to make it a 51:28, Maccabi advantage. However, the visitors went on a 19:2 run as the hosts had no answer to the Bavarians, 53:47 with 10 minutes remaining.
At the start of the final quarter, Maccabi was able to end the drought, Hunter scored twice inside the paint, and a Zoosman three gave the Yellow & Blue an 60:49 advantage. The host’s tightened up on defense, going on a 15:4 rally, to give themselves a commanding 20 points differential with 2 minutes remaining. The MVP of the evening, Yovel Zoosman slammed it down in the final minute, leading Maccabi to a 77:55 victory over Bayern Munich.
