Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv lost to Fenerbahce Ulker 75-74 in Game 3 of the Euroleague quarterfinal series and has finished their season in Europe. Jeremy Pargo led the yellows with 21 points, and Brian Randle had a double double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Devin Smith contributed 8 points and 9 rebounds.
Maccabi’s starters were Yogev Ohayon, Devin Smith, Jeremy Pargo, Sofo Schortsanitis, and Brian Randle. Maccabi came out fired up on both ends of the court, running to 7-3 in the first two and a half minutes on points from Ohayon, Sofo with a hook shot, and Pargo from downtown. Randle then went on a run of his own, with a layup and two dunks including a one-handed slam that made it 13-5 with four minutes left in the period. The Turks started lighting up the scoreboard, but a trey by Smith and another by Nate Linhart at the end of the period made it 20-13 as the quarter came to an end.
The tempo shifted at the start of the second period, as Fenerbahce took a 23-22 lead close to the halfway mark. The yellows retook the lead, then lost it again, playing catch-up for the rest of the period with points by Smith, Tyus, and Pargo, but the half ended with the visitors holding a 37-31 lead.
Smith kicked off the second half with a triple on the left wing, but after that the yellows couldn’t get their shots to drop. They held the Turks to three points for the first five minutes, while points by Pargo from the foul line made it 40-36. A layup and one by Randle and points by Tyus put Maccabi within two, 43-41 with less than three minutes left in the period, but Fenerbahce opened up their lead and the quarter came to an end with the Turkish team leading 50-45.
This time it was Pargo who scored from the top of the arc to start the quarter, putting Maccabi back within three. Fenerbahce responded, but MarQuez Haynes and Randle put Maccabi’s deficit at one, 54-53. The yellows tied the score but couldn’t claim the lead until Joe Alexander grabbed a key defensive rebound and added a putback slam at the other end, 65-63 Maccabi with :33 on the clock. Vesely threw down a dunk for the Turks in the final seconds and with the score tied at 65-65, the game went into overtime.
The visitors reclaimed the lead early in the extra period, but Maccabi clawed their way back to a tie halfway through. Pargo put Maccabi on top 72-71 with a minute left, but in the end a layup by Goudelock gave Fenerbahce Ulker a 75-74 victory over Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv and a ticket to the Euroleague Final Four.
