Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv defeated Zalgiris Kaunas 79-72 at Menora Mivtachim Arena. Jeremy Pargo with 26 points was named game MVP. Devin Smith added 19 points, and Alex Tyus contributed 10 points.

Maccabi’s starters were Yogev Ohayon, Brian Randle, Devin Smith, Alex Tyus, and Jeremy Pargo. The home team got off to a slow start, but points by Tyus put them on top 8-7 halfway through the period. Pargo with eight straight points made it 16-11, and Randle scored to end the period with Maccabi leading 18-15.

Zalgiris started the second quarter by pulling within one, but a triple by Nate Linhart and points by Randle, along with a Randle to Tyus alley oop that ended in a one-handed slam, gave Maccabi a 25-19 lead after two and a half minutes. The visitors started a comeback, but an 11 point run by Smith from all over the court made it 38-32 with less than two minutes left in the half. Randle added a coast to coast layup, and Smith drained another three to end the half with Maccabi up 43-34.

The visitors closed to 47-46 four minutes into the second half, but five straight by Smith gave the home team some breathing room. A Pargolicious drive through and around defenders ended in a layup and one, and Sofo Schortsanitis added a nice hook shot to make it 57-48. Randle and Sofo scored to extend Maccabi’s lead to ten, and a reverse layup by Sofo ended the period with the score 66-54.

The start of the fourth quarter was slow for both teams, with Maccabi not finding the basket until Pargo scored nine straight to make it 75-66 with less than two minutes left in the game. Zalgiris fought hard to steal a win, but blocks by Randle and Linhart shut them down. In the end Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv defeated Zalgiris Kaunas 79-72.
